The Cartoonists Are Coming, The Cartoonists Are Coming!
By Mike Edholm
Lock the doors and guard the chicken
coop. On Saturday, February 21st, the members of the National Cartoonist
Society North Central Chapter will be descending upon the
unsuspecting city of Lincoln, Nebraska for a meeting to judge the
Editorial Cartoon entries for this year’s Reuben Awards. Named for
the humorist, Rube Goldberg, the Reuben Awards are the “Academy
Awards” for cartoonists. Members of the National Cartoonist
Society will gather in Hollywood, California, Memorial Day weekend to
honor their own with the most prestigious awards they could come up with.
More information about the NCS and the Reuben’s can be found at the
NCS website, www.reuben.org.
The members of the North Central Chapter will arrive Friday evening at the Holiday Inn, 9th & P Street, gather around the sacred fires and dance the sacred dances that have been handed down for centuries. In other words, a cocktail party — a chance to reconnect, check out what folks have been doing since we last saw one other, swap lies, and unwind. Then, on Saturday, members and invited guests will gather for coffee and idle chit-chat before making their way to DISH Restaurant, where the judging will begin. The judging is limited to NCS members only and the decisions are confidential. Once the pressure is off and the tallies have been counted and sealed, invited guests are invited back in, and/or guest speakers will begin sharing their stories.
More will be posted after the event ends and the dust settles. Stay tuned…
