'Smart Giving' Program Benefiting Food Bank of Lincoln Set to Begin November 1st
The 2009 Smart Giving donation will be made possible through purchases of Smart Chicken products during the month of November at Lincoln Russ’s Market and Super Saver stores. The program will donate one pound of Smart Chicken to the Food Bank of Lincoln for every ten pounds of chicken sold. Last year, the program raised more than 7,600 pounds of Smart Chicken for the Food Bank of Lincoln.
“With the help of the people of Lincoln, Smart Giving delivers nutritious, wholesome food to families in need right here in our community,” said Pat Raybould, president of B&R Stores, Inc., parent company of Russ’s Market and Super Saver. “Through their purchases at Russ’s Market and Super Saver stores, customers can show their support for the Food Bank of Lincoln and help put food on the tables of families in need during the holidays.”
B&R Stores was one of the original partners in the Smart Giving program, which launched in 2002. “B&R Stores has been and continues to be one of the largest contributors and greatest supporters to the Smart Giving program,” said Tom Ryks, Smart Chicken regional sales manager. “It’s a great feeling for us to be partnered with another local company that’s making a difference in our community.”
In addition to Smart Giving, B&R Stores also supports a number of other Food Bank of Lincoln programs including the Food Bank Backpack program, Combat Hunger and Shop to End Hunger. Other charities B&R Stores is involved with include Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Nebraska Community Blood Bank and the Lincoln Community Playhouse.
