Celebrate First Friday with the North Lincoln Art Crawl December 4

Lichen On Friday, December 4, Against the Wall Gallery, Elder Gallery at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Heart of Gold Jewelers, LUX Center for the Arts, Salt Creek Potters Workshop, Mo Java Café, and The Lichen will kick off North Lincoln Art Crawl.  

Crawl organizer and LUX Center staff member, Carlos Guerrero said, "There are exciting things happening in the art scene in north Lincoln.  People don’t typically think of this area of town as being an art hot spot, but it’s quickly becoming one."

Gallery maps will be provided at each of the galleries.

Against the Wall Gallery, located at 6220 Havelock Avenue, will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.   Featured works by local painters, photographers, sculptors, jewelers, potters and textile artists will be on display.

Elder Gallery at Nebraska Wesleyan University, located at the corner of 50th Street and Huntington Avenue, will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Elder Gallery presents Annual Juried Student Exhibition.  Painting, drawing, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and photography will be shown in this exhibition.

Heart of Gold Jewelers, located at 2634 N 48th Street in Studioville, will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Featured artists are photographer, Mina Lee; bead artist, Ginger Lippold; potter, Pam Huckins; potter, Larry Pelter; and metalsmiths and Heart of Gold Jewelers owners, Toni and Charles Yost. Along with showing the work of other artists, the Yosts make one-of-a-kind jewelry and do custom jewelry work.

LUX Center for the Arts, located at 2601 N 48th Street, will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. LUX Center for the Arts presents, Brion Poloncic’s Xanthous Mermaid Mechanics. Poloncic’s work shows a wonderfully complex narrative of his imagination and experiences using pen and ink drawings.

The LUX also hosts Winterfest, a family friendly First Friday event is a collaboration with UNL’s Art in the Community class.  Visitors can make hand-printed gift wrap or have their purchases wrapped on site with pre-printed wrapping.  Children and adults can try their hand at traditional paper-arts appropriate for the winter holidays.  Complimentary cookies and cider will be available.

Salt Creek Potters Workshop, located at 2722 N 48th Street, will be open from 5 p.m to 9 p.m.  Functional pottery made by Larry Pelter will be on display for his annual open studio event.  Salt Creek Potters Work Shop is a group of artists focusing on functional and sculptural ceramics.

Mo Java Café, located at 2649 N 48th Street, will have an art opening from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Featured artists are Sean Heitman and Andrei Sorokin.  Live music will be preformed by Bill Behmer and Gwen Meister.

The Lichen, located at 2810 N 48th Street, will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  This is the inaugural opening for this new art gallery and creative design studio.  Founders Ella Durham and Samuel B. Rapien said,

"One of our objectives is to reach out to the Lincoln community and highlight local businesses, studios, and individuals that exemplify the genius and artistic spirit which we share."

It would be great if there could be a different day for north Lincoln art walks - or for downtown one.... I can't make it to both in the same evening. :(
