'Think Green' Exhibition Opens March 26 at Kruger Gallery

“Fashion Identity/Standardization” by Emily Fleming, a graduate student in Architecture. This roombox compares eighteenth-century interior fashion promoted by Thomas Chippendale with the contemporary customs of the “green” design. Think Green will open March 26 at the Kruger Gallery in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Architecture Hall.

This exhibition examines how past interior design styles parallel aspects of today's "green" design. Think Green features 15 miniature rooms exploring ideals in design trends, the impact interior spaces have on the environment and eco-friendly design materials.

The exhibition highlights a portion of the 20,000-piece collection of miniatures in the Kruger Collection. Lincoln resident Eloise Kruger collected the majority of these miniatures. Included in this exhibition are miniature room creations by College of Architecture architecture graduate student Emily Fleming and senior interior design student Stephanie Land.

Also exhibited are designs by the winners of the third-year interior design studio project "Occupying Space: the Cardboard Chair." The design challenge winners are Megan Dowling, Katherine Fisher, Kara Mieth and Allison Wood.

Student editors of In.Form, a peer-reviewed journal of architecture, design and material culture, determine the annual exhibition theme for the Kruger Gallery. According to the journal editors, Think Green will "evaluate and discuss the relationship between design and nature." UNL's College of Architecture and the Interior Design Program in conjunction with the Kruger Collection sponsor the journal.

The exhibition is on view through March 18, 2011.

For more information, or to schedule an exhibition tour, contact DiAnna Hemsath, curator, at (402) 472-3560 or by e-mail at dhemsath2@unl.edu. To view the Kruger Gallery website, click here.
