North Lincoln Art Crawl Presents 'Due North: A Celebration of the Arts'
LUX Center Membership and Marketing Coordinator, Carlos Guerrero says, “As a group of galleries, we decided it would be exciting to add other creative elements to our exhibitions this month. This should be fun for everyone.”
Gallery maps will be provided at each of the galleries.
9 Muses Studio, located at 2713 N 48th Street, will be open from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. 9 Muses Studio presents “Dog Days of Summer.” The colorful acrylic paintings by Joan Elizabeth Sangimino and paper mache sculptures made from “junk mail” by Les M. Musicians will be displayed. Dancers, hula-hoopers, and jugglers will be performing throughout the evening. Attendees are invited roast hot dogs and veggie dogs at an outdoor fire pit.
Against the Wall Gallery, located at 6220 Havelock Avenue, will be open from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Against the Wall Gallery presents “Art Gong: Sound Infinitum.” This exhibition of gongs by local gong maker, Andrew Boracove, will be on display. The artist will be on hand at the reception to demonstrate the gongs and share his collection of gongs and bells that he has collected from across the world.
Heart of Gold Jewelers, located at 2634 N 48th Street in Studioville, will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Heart of Gold Jewelers is hosting a celebration of their one-year anniversary of being in business. Jewelry by Charles and Antonia Yost will be featured. Jewelry, photography, woodcarvings, and glasswork by various local artists will also be on display.
International Quilt Study Center & Museum, located at the Intersection of 33rd & Holdrege Streets, will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. International Quilt Study Center & Museum presents “Childhood Treasures: Doll Quilts from the Ghormley Collection.”
"South Asian Seams: Quilts from India, Pakistan, & Bangladesh" will also be on display.
LUX Center for the Arts, located at 2601 N 48th Street, will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. LUX Center for the Arts presents, “Sustain” by LUX Artist-in-Residence, Natalie Nelson. Nelson has created cocoon-like forms made from bamboo, soy, and organic cotton that are woven and knitted onto sections of handmade naturally dyed fabric. Nelson will be on hand at the opening to answer questions.“Show Poster Poster Show” continues through August 28. Hastings College professor, Turner McGehee and local artist, Bennett Holzworth have curated handmade band promotional posters for this exhibition. Participating artists: Julie Belcher, Paul Berkbigler, Kevin Bradley, Dirk Fowler, Bennett Holzworth, Bryce McCloud, Casey McGarr, Megan Timanus, and Brad Vetter. Limited editions of the posters are available for purchase.
Local harpist, Jennifer Buehler, will be playing classical, celtic, and contemplative music from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Mo Java Café, located at 2649 N 48th Street, will have an art opening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mo Java Café presents the artwork of a local artist. Live “oldies” music will be performed by “Jammin’ Judy.”
Salt Creek Potters Workshop, located at 2722 N 48th Street, will be open from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. Salt Creek Potters Work Shop presents ceramic work by guest artist, Thurston Baker. Work by workshop artists: Larry Brown, Chad Davis, Peg and Larry Pelter will also be on display. Live music will be performed though out the evening by the “A Street Band.”
the lichen, located at 2810 N 48th Street, will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. the lichen presents “Packets & Attachments”, a series of photographs by Z. Xonk. This body of work explores digital, social interactions involving anonymity, sexuality and gender.
At 9:00 p.m., the lichen will be screening “Within the Realm of the People: love, dreams, & the reanimation of a severed dog's head.” This film is a compilation of beautiful, bizarre, and bygone public domain footage. A live soundtrack will be preformed by “The Ghost Kids.”
