LUX Artist-in-Residence, Trudie Teijink investigates the emotion of desire in her newest body of work. Her exploration ranges from investigating consumer desirable objects to addressing the longing for a more pure and long-term fulfillment in life. She uses digitally printed imagery on paper and fabric along side traditional drawing and printing techniques to explore possible substitutions and project her own desires indicating a longing for a different, more intense, pure life that involves an idealized dream of living in the country. She believes her search touches upon today’s Zeitgeist containing a layer of dissatisfaction, unrest, and a longing for change hidden in most of us.

"Fireside Tales," Bridget Murphy Milligan

This work examines and preserves the tradition of Irish storytelling through the language of photography. Together the images recreate popular stories of faith, mystery, myth, humor, history, and legends. One of the oldest art forms, storytelling is both collective and ephemeral.  It embraces everything from rumors, jokes, gossip around the kitchen table, to stories once told around the fireside.  In oral tradition, the life of a story undergoes multiple adaptations, and with technology constantly changing and reinventing the way we communicate and share with one another, what will become of traditional storytelling?

Opening reception: 6 to 8 p.m.
